About The Computer Science Department
The Department of Computer Science at Wake Forest University is home to computer science BS, BA, MS, and minor programs. There are ten full-time faculty members in the department, 85 BS/BA majors (junior and seniors only), and 16 MS-level graduate students.
Existing research and educational programs in the Department are in the areas of network security, computing for persons with disabilities, imaging, mobile computing, computational biophysics, HPC education, digital media, databases/big data, and GPU computing. Faculty members are successful in obtaining support for research from government and non-government sources. These areas represent not only research in the department, but are highly interdisciplinary and include collaborators in and out of the sciences. The Department prides itself on engaging undergraduate and graduate students in and out of the classroom, providing opportunities for students to work closely with faculty members in their scholarship and research.
Faculty members have taken a lead in the College in introducing STEM to non-traditional students. The Department has established a STEM lab and associated courses specifically designed for small groups of freshman with upperclassmen as mentors.
