STEM Fair September 27 and 28

The University of South Carolina will host our Fall 2023 2-Day STEM Fair on September 27th and 28th at the Carolina Coliseum (701 Assembly Street, Columbia SC 29201) from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm.  We will host nearly 200 unique employers hiring across diverse STEM majors. Recruiters will be from a broad range of industries related to the sciences, technology and computing, engineering, mathematics, and data analysis to participate in our USC STEM fair. The attached flyer highlights employers and programs represented by the major they are hiring.

Students in attendance will be able to learn more about full-time jobs, internship opportunities, and STEM-related graduate programs. This fair is open to ALL USC Students and Alumni. can register for the event on Handshake at the links below.

Undergraduate research position at the Mechanical Engineering department

The i-MAPS laboratory, led by Prof. Sourav Banerjee in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, is hiring highly motivated Undergraduate Computer Science Students for related projects on Automation for NDE, ML/AI, and robotics. NVIDIA is now accepting applications for the NVIDIA Graduate Fellowship Program for the 2024-2025 academic year! The program, now in its 23rd year, is now accepting applications worldwide. It focuses on supporting doctoral students working in AI, machine learning, autonomous vehicles, computer graphics, robotics, healthcare, high performance computing and related fields. Awards are up to $60,000 per student.

Since its start in 2002, the Graduate Fellowship Program has awarded nearly 200 grants worth more than $6 million.

Details and Qualifications

The application deadline for the 2024-2025 academic year is Sept. 7, 2023. An internship at NVIDIA preceding the fellowship year is mandatory — eligible candidates must be available for the internship in summer 2024. The program is open to applicants worldwide. Eligible graduate students must have completed their first year of Ph.D.-level studies at the time of application in the areas of computer science, computer engineering, system architecture, electrical engineering, or a related area.

University Housing- IT Technical Assistant

The primary duties of the University Housing Technology Services- Technical Assistant is to work alongside the professional technology services staff to maintain all technology for the University Housing department. In addition:

  • Maintain and update computers across various University Housing offices on campus

Teaching Positions at Georgia College & State University

Georgia College & State University has an opening for a data science instructor and a computer science assistant professor. Both positions are housed in the Department of Information Systems & Computer Science in the J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology. The department has an ABET accredited BS in CS and AACSB accredited programs for the BBA and Master of Management Information Systems. These position start August 1, 2023.

Data Science Instructor – The data science major just started in fall 2022 and has 15 majors already. This instructor will serve as the main contact for data science recruiting. The 10-month instructor will teach 4 sections in fall and 4 sections in spring semester and may make up to 9% per course for summer teaching. The position must be SACS qualified for math as one of these sections each fall and spring will be taught for the math department. Richland County Sheriff’s Department: Quality Assurance Specialist;  Mobile Devices

The primary duties include dataset development for mobile devices (Android and iOS).  The process of developing datasets consists of several phases: Planning, Setup/Preparation, Data Population, and Acquisition.  A dataset is a collection of files or data (obtained from a digital device) created to have a desired set of attributes and known content.  In mobile forensics, these datasets can be used for a variety of quality assurance purposes, including but not limited to: the testing and evaluation of tools and methods, training and performance monitoring of forensic examiners, and verification of artifacts or analysis findings.  The quality of a test dataset is generally dependent upon the development documentation.   A well-documented dataset facilitates more rigorous testing and reliable results.

Applying candidates should have familiarity with the following:

  • Fluency with Android and iOS operating systems
  • Experience with documentation
  • Detail oriented
  • Some research experience desirable
  • Scenario development and scripting (Python) desirable

AI Research Internships for Undergraduates  

The Johns Hopkins University Center for Language and Speech Processing is organizing the Ninth Frederick Jelinek Memorial Summer Workshop from June 12 to August 4, 2023, this year hosted at the University of Le Mans, France.   We are seeking outstanding members of the current junior class enrolled in US-universities to join this residential research experience in human language technologies (HLT) from June 12 to August 4th, 2023.  

The internship includes a comprehensive 2-week summer school on HLT, followed by intensive research projects on select topics for 6 weeks.  

The 8-week workshop provides an intense, dynamic intellectual environment.  Undergraduates work closely alongside senior researchers as part of a multi-university research team, which has been assembled for the summer to attack HLT problem of current interest.  

The teams and topics for 2023 are:  

  • Better Together:  Text + Context 
  • Finite State Methods with Modern Neural Architectures for Speech Application and Beyond 
  • Automatic Design of Conversational Models from Observation of Human-to-Human Conversation
  • Interpretability for Spoken Interactions:  How Can We Use Embeddings to Explain Diarization Decisions? 
  • We hope that this highly selective and stimulating will encourage students to pursue graduate study in HLT and AI, as it has been doing for many years.

The summer workshop provides:  

  • An opportunity to explore an exciting new area of research  
  • A two-week tutorial on current speech and language technology  
  • Mentoring by experienced researchers  
  • Participation in project planning activities  
  • Use of cloud computing services  
  • A $6,000 stipend and $2,800 towards meals and incidental expenses  
  • Private furnished accommodation for the duration of the workshop  
  • Travel expenses to and from the workshop venue

Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Multi-Scale Systems Bioengineering and Biomedical Data Science at the University of Virginia

The University of Virginia is hosting an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) summer program in multi-scale systems bioengineering and biomedical data science. The objective of the program is to train undergraduates from a variety of STEM backgrounds and provide them with the skills, confidence, and mentorship necessary for successful careers in the exciting field of systems bioengineering. Students will be matched with faculty mentors for a 10-week research project, culminating in a paper and public symposium. All students will participate in collaborative, hands-on, and closely mentored projects in the areas of: 1) Molecular Pathways and Cellular Modeling and 2) Tissue-/Organ-/Population-Level Modeling, which will immerse them in a combination of experimentation and computational analyses. Students will acquire the practical skills, knowledge, ethical grounding, and communication skills necessary to be productive in advanced graduate study and be successfully employed in the modern biotechnology industry. The program will also provide students with career advising, grounding in research ethics, training in scientific communication, and ongoing mentorship after completion of the program.

Some experience in physics and programming is recommended, but not required. Women, underrepresented minorities, and military veterans are especially encouraged to apply.
