Dr. Darin Freeburg from Library and Information Science is seeking students for research projects. Multiple research positions available: 1) Student(s) needed immediately for: Social Media/Marketing Opportunity with Local Church Students are needed to help a local church in a rebranding effort and in developing a social media presence. This may include a website redesign. Advanced students in computing, marketing, public relations, visual communications, journalism, and related areas are invited to send a resume and letter of interest to Darin Freeburg, Assistant Professor in the School of Library and Information Science (darinf@mailbox.sc.edu). 2) Additional research opportunities available for this project – ALL majors welcome based on interest and expertise As part of a larger research project in which the information needs of local churches and nonprofits are identified, students from across campus are invited to gain hands-on experience while helping these nonprofits in particular areas. Students will have the opportunity to engage in high-level research, as well as gain direct hands-on experience in an area they are interested in. Due to the nature of the research, the areas of expertise required for each project will change. The research focuses on intellectual capital and knowledge creation. Students in journalism and English, for instance, can help increase an organization’s internal communication and dialogue. Students in Education and psychology can help an organization develop practices of learning and self-evaluation. Students in exercise science and hospitality management can design spaces for informal collaboration. Particular expertise in database design is always welcome. Positions are unpaid but salary may be available through grants from the Office of Undergraduate Research and/or Honors College, based on eligibility.
