The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program is a 10-week summer research program for undergraduate and graduate students in STEM majors. Learn from our mentors and gain experience while completing a cutting-edge research project. Participants receive a stipend. Travel and housing assistance are provided to eligible participants.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8
  • Be enrolled full-time as a degree-seeking student in a STEM program at an accredited college or university at the Associate, Bachelor’s or Master’s level at the time of application
  • Must be at least a college sophomore at the time of application

Stipends:

  • Associate/Bachelor’s students: $6,500 for the 10-week summer program
  • Master’s students: $7,500 for the 10-week summer program

Some participants may be authorized to receive an additional allowance to offset the cost of housing and travel expenses.
